What We Do

The BBBS mentoring model creates one-to-one mentoring relationships that focus on the individual needs of the child, and the BBBS culture is defined by a commitment to quality service delivery and respect for diversity across all cultures.

The mentoring programs of BBBS Affiliates internationally are professionally managed and adhere to Standards of Practice that apply to the programs of all BBBS International Affiliates. A core aspect of the BBBS model is a professional case management approach. Educated and trained staff oversee the engagement of volunteers and the process of making matches. The staff continue to provide support to volunteers, children and their families throughout the life of the match. Attention to child safety is another hallmark of the BBBS model. All volunteers are vetted and trained, and all participants – child, volunteer and parent/guardian - receive child safety training.

The BBBS model has gained a reputation for excellence over a century of service and decades of research - click here to learn more about the research. Independent studies have confirmed the near and long-term benefits to children who participate in BBBS programs - click here to learn more about the social return on investment study.

As the world's largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations create meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”) in communities around the globe.
